ABC Wednesday

B is for Bison. I watched these bison cows yesterday morning. They both rolled in a spot they had cleared of grass. As I watched they rubbed their faces in the dust.
Looking closer you can see why, these flies can be a irritant so by rubbing dust on their faces I think it helps.

Are these being raised for meat? I somehow don't associate bison with Kansas, or at least I didn't until I saw this post. My parents were from Kansas and I grew up singing "in Kansas where the sunflowers grow..."

Buffalo would have been my third choice after butterflies and birds.

Nice photos.

Lets see if I can spell, thanks for your kind words guys. No these are not raised for food. They belong to the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Dept. They are part of a small herd kept on about 100 acres north of here.

Oh hop wonderful! So magestic. I look out onto some grazing cows, sadly raised for meat. I eat meat so i shouldn't complain but they have personalities which I find endearing!

Somehow I missed your post on ABC Wednesday yesterday, so thought I should catch up...
That bison is one large animal, but those tiny flies must bug the heck out of it...   Such a noble creature...
