Skywatch Friday

We have had clear, crisp, beautiful sunrises all week here in SE Kansas.
I like the way the sun paints this bluebird box.
I spotted a family of migrating swans east of town, two adults and three juveniles. I believe they are Trumpeter Swans or Tundra Swans I'm not sure. With more work being done in places like Minnesota to protect habitat I hope we see more of these in the future, its an encouraging view for the new year.
Whitetail Deer against the sky.
Prairie creek morning.
Happy New Year!

My World Tuesday

This week I would feature the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore Oklahoma. My wife and I drove down yesterday to take a look. Its located on a beautiful 20 acres campus.
It features nine galleries of memorabilia and artifacts, a children's museum, two cool theaters, and some very interesting interactive displays.

He and members of his family are interred on the grounds.
Will Rogers was one of Americas favorite and multi-talented individuals of the twentieth century; cowboy, trick roper, humorist, stage actor, film star and Zigfield follies star to name a few of the things he did well. He hung out with presidents, pilots, actors and plain folks. He died in a plane crash in Alaska in 1938. For more on Rogers click here.

Walking Companions - Camera Critters

When I go for a short walk around our pastures and up the hill to my neighbors pasture I am rarely alone. Our beagle loves the walk, but usually I am accompanied by three of our "farm" cats. Sylvester keeps her distance and follows quietly.
Stinky finds any vertical object to climb hoping Ill scratch her head. The kitten Groucho follows along meowing, tail at that flag like position that says I'm OK with the world and I wanna be friends. The other two tolerate the kitten, they are more in tune to the sounds anLinkd smell as we hike. I have a uneasy alliance with these three. They are not really pets, the older two are fixed. They were all most likely abandoned out here by college students moving on. I try to keep them well fed, I rarely see them take a song bird, when they do its usually a starling or house sparrow. They keep our garage/shed free of mice, and on short hikes they make good companions.
